    2010 China-MSD HIV/AIDS Partnership Oversight Committee Meeting held in Chengdu
     
     
    In the afternoon on March 19, 2010, the 2010 China-MSD HIV/AIDS Partnership Oversight Committee meeting was held in Chengdu. The meeting was attended by a total of 27 people made up of C-MAP OC members and member representatives from MOH, MSD and other OC agencies. These included representatives from the Department of International Cooperation,Bureau of Diseases Control, Department of Medical Administration, State Council AIDS Working Committee Office, National Center of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control, CDC, Health Department of Sichuan Province , Liangshan Yi Minority Autonomous Prefecture , Asia Pacific & Latin America Public Policy, Merck, Co., Inc. , Merck Sharp & Dohme (China) Co., Ltd. and the staff of National, provincial and prefecture offices. The Meeting was chaired by the C-MAP Oversight Committee Co-chair, Director-General; International Cooperation Department, Dr. Ren Minghui.
     
    The meeting fully affirmed the progress of the project in 2008-2009.  The project has made great progress and has made considerable progress on the core indicators at different levels.  The OC meeting approved the 2010 strategic objectives and priority activities in principle. The key events and activities are included the Project Mid-Term Evaluation, 2011 Annual Plan Initiative, C-MAP Public Communication Plan, Business Summit on HIV/AIDS Control and 2010 World AIDS Day Campaign. There were 4 proposals submitted to the OC meeting for deliberation and decision making. The coming April to July, mid-term evaluation will be conducted, an additional OC meeting will be held in August for further project funding strategies, human resources will be allocated in Liangshan key counties and transport vehicles will be allocated to expand the access of MMT services at a township level.   
     
    The C-MAP Oversight Committee Co-Chair, Director-General, Department of International Cooperation, the Chinese Ministry of Health, Dr. Ren Minghui stressed that the project area and partners should further strengthen the project priorities, strengthen the ownership, make full use of the platform for international cooperation projects, to continually explore good and best practice models in project counties, and to effectively integrate resources.

    MSD China President, and the C-MAP Oversight Committee Co-Chair, Mr. Michel Vounatsos, and C-MAP Foundation President, Samir A. Khalil also fully appreciated the achievements and significant progress made within the two years. In the meantime, the OC members clearly agreed that the direction of C-MAP should focus on the quality of services, the number of AIDS patients able to access ART services, the accessibility of CD4 testing, and the effective implementation of mother to child transmission prevention projects, and the mobilization of community and grass level organisations to jointly fight HIV/AIDS in the project province.
