¡°Research on Gene Mutation of Major HIV Strains in China, Their Epidemiological Characteristics and Setting-up of A Database¡± Won Second-Class National Prize for Science and Technology Progress in 2007

Led by NCAIDS, China CDC and coordinated by all provincial CDCs throughout the country, a research project was carried out on gene mutation of major HIV strains in China and their epidemiological characteristics, in order to identify variation of HIV-1 subtype in China and its categorization, as well as of new recombinant viruses and characteristics of their transmission among population, and to apply these results to address issues in response to HIV/AIDS. This study deepens understanding of evolution of HIV and provides an important scientific evidence for appropriate evaluation of effectiveness of outcomes of HIV/AIDS prevention and control. Therefore, a Second-Class National Prize for Science and Technology Progress in 2007 was awarded to it by the State Council.
